The annual competition Top Technician was created in 2003 to recognise and reward the best vehicle technicians in the UK, at a time when the national press were highlighting the few bad eggs and tarring all technicians with the same brush.
Top Tech, so-called by its many friends, has become a highly-respected competition among technicians, the automotive media and increasingly, the general public. Trouble-shooting on modern passenger cars is a highly-skilled and technical job. The tens of thousands of professional technicians who keep millions of motorists safe on the road do a job they should quite rightly be proud of.

'I loved speaking to all the different people involved in the competition, the networking aspect of Top Technician has always been very important. The thing is, even if you dont get past the first stage of the competition, you always learn something.'
2010 Top Technician champion Stuart White of Complete Car Maintenance in Oakwood, Surrey

How do I enter and what happens next?
You are eligible to enter as long as you are not an employed trainer and are a working technician in a UK workshop, (independent garage, dealership or fleet) or a mobile technician, and have at least 3 years of experience finding a range of faults on passenger cars.
Ticking the right boxes? Excellent, all you need to do now is enter a few details here.

In October 2010 you will receive an email link to an online test and the first 250 entrants will be sent a poster to display in their workshop to promote their involvement to customers.
The online test should take about one hour to complete and will include multi-choice questions based on repair scenarios and the theory that supports a competent technician in a modern workshop. The deadline is Friday 7th January 2011.
Every 6 weeks you will be emailed a Top Tech Club newsletter, containing technical articles, news and offers from sponsors Autologic, Blue Print, Comma Oil & Chemicals, Delphi, Euro Car Parts and Lemforder and technical partner ATA.
Its not just the winner who benefits from taking part

The 24 highest-scoring technicians will take part in a half day practical assessment on either February 3rd or 4th in Warwick. The top 12 will then compete for the title of Top Technician 2011 at the Honda Institute in Slough on Friday March 4th.
The Final 2 will attend the Awards Ceremony on April 13th 2011, held at the Workshop Show alongside the Commercial Vehicle Show at Birmingham NEC. The winner will be crowned Top Technician 2011 and will receive £2,500 cash and thousands of pounds worth of prizes including diagnostic kit, race days and a choice of ATA.
Opportunities that arise from taking part in Top Technician are even more valuable; a network of contacts to solve workshop problems with, access to the best technical trainers the industry has to offer and sponsors who are genuinely interested in your opinions of how they can help people like you work more effectively and profitably. Past finalists have also been offered employment and asked to become part of the judging panel.
So what are you waiting for? Simply enter your details here and give the first stage online test a go!
We look forward to welcoming new faces and catching up with old friends in 2011.
