Welcome to Top Technician

The annual competition Top Technician was created in 2003 to recognise and reward the best vehicle technicians in the UK, at a time when the national press were highlighting the few bad eggs and tarring all technicians with the same brush.

Top Tech, so-called by its many friends, has become a highly-respected competition among technicians, the automotive media and increasingly, the general public. Trouble-shooting on modern passenger cars is a highly-skilled and technical job. The tens of thousands of professional technicians who keep millions of motorists safe on the road do a job they should quite rightly be proud of.

If you repair passenger vehicles and have several years’ experience, please enter here
If you would like to nominate a Top Technician, please do so here

Why Enter?

ATA, our longstanding technical partner whose expertise ensures Top Tech meets the highest independent technical standards, says:
‘It’s a great way for automotive technicians to demonstrate their ability against the very best in the industry. Top Technician continues to deliver long overdue status and respect to those who compete to be the best. ATA is delighted to continue to be the technical partner of Top Technician’. Steve Scofield, Head of the Accreditation Academy at the IMI

Top 5 reasons technicians enter and why you should do it today:

  • To gain access to an exclusive free Top Technician Forum
  • To qualify for 25% discounted tickets to Top Tech Live next spring
  • To see how far you can get in the competition
  • For the chance of winning over £10,000 in prizes
  • To gain publicity for yourself and your workshop

How do I enter and what happens next?

You are eligible to enter as long as you are not an employed trainer and are a working technician in a UK workshop, (independent garage, dealership or fleet) or a mobile technician, and have at least 3 years of experience finding a range of faults on passenger cars.

Ticking the right boxes? Excellent, all you need to do now is enter a few details here.

Top Technician Online

You will receive an email link to an online test and the first 250 entrants will be sent a poster to display in their workshop to promote their involvement to customers.

The online test should take about one hour to complete and will include multi-choice questions based on repair scenarios and the theory that supports a competent technician in a modern workshop. The deadline is February 24, 2012.

Every 6 weeks you will be emailed a Top Tech Club newsletter, containing technical articles, news and offers from sponsors Autologic, Blue Print, Comma Oil & Chemicals, Delphi, Euro Car Parts, Gates, Lemforder and technical partner ATA.

Top Technicians at work

Top Technicians attending the half day practical assessment

The 24 highest-scoring technicians will take part in a half day practical assessment on either March 22nd or 23rd in Warwick. The top 6 will then compete for the title of Top Technician 2012 at the Honda Institute in Slough on Friday April 20, 2012.

The final two will attend the Awards Ceremony at Top Tech Live in May 2012, a training event which will take place in the South East. The winner will be crowned Top Technician 2012 and will receive £2,500 cash and thousands of pounds worth of prizes including diagnostic kit, race days and a choice of ATA.

Opportunities that arise from taking part in Top Technician are even more valuable; a network of contacts to solve workshop problems with, access to the best technical trainers the industry has to offer and sponsors who are genuinely interested in your opinions of how they can help people like you work more effectively and profitably. Past finalists have also been offered employment and asked to become part of the judging panel.

So what are you waiting for? Simply enter your details here and give the first stage online test a go!

We look forward to welcoming new faces and catching up with old friends in 2012.
